Entry Requirements
- a. Non-Chinese citizen in good health;
- b. An applicant for the doctoral program must hold a Master’s degree, or another qualification of equivalent academic performance, as determined by D&I Academic Committee;
- c. Applicants should have undergraduate and postgraduate education experience in relevant fields, and have a good academic performance; d. Applicants must have qualified English proficiency. Those whose mother languages are other than English are required to provide official language test results as supporting material: TOEFL (total score of 80 or above); or IELTS (total score of 6 or above).
Note: Since 2010, those who immigrated to other countries from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan and applying to study in Tongji University as international students must satisfy the following additional requirements: 1) the applicant must hold a valid passport or other relevant internationally recognized documents for at least 4 years; and 2) in the latest 4 years (by each April 30th of the year of University registration), the applicant must live overseas for over 2 years (living overseas for 9 months can be converted to 1 year, which is subject to the exit-entry stamp on visa).

With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included(Photocopy of valid passport identification page. Passport must be an ordinary passport and be valid for at least six months. Applicants currently residing in China must include a copy of the page containing a valid visa or residence permit.)

*4. Photocopies of graduate certificate and degree certificate.
If the certificates are not in Chinese or English,the original notarized translatedversions must be submitted.
The certificates should be notarized by local Chinese Embassy or local Chinese Consulates (or foreign embassies or consulates inChina).
Certificate of expected graduation issued by current academic institution (for applicants who will be graduating after current academic year only and must be the Original copy).
Degree certificate is required to be verified; and notarized documents related to the degree certificate must be submitted at the registration.*5. Original or notarized academic transcripts of the MA program.
If the academic transcripts are not in Chinese or English,the original notarized translated document must be submitted.
The transcript should be notarized by local Chinese Embassy or local Chinese Consulates (or foreign embassies or consulates inChina).*6. Physical Examination Report
Only valid if the report is issued during the past 6 months.
*7. Two letters of recommendation
From two professors or associate professors (contact information is necessary).
*8. Personal statement
Around 1500 words for doctoral candidates, in Chinese (Chinese- taught programs) or English (English-taught programs). Study and work experience, academic research achievement, planned research proposal and personal prospect after graduation should be included.
*9. Catalogue and abstract of published papers, and other documents that can prove academic ability.
10. Letter of Approval from the instructor of Tongji University
Optional, if the applicant has already contacted a professor for approval, this file can besubmitted.
11. Supporting Documents: Certificate of Good Conduct
Provided by your current/previous school/company in Chinese/English to improve your success rate.
